The firm of Brink, Sobolik, Severson, Malm & Albrecht,
P.A., was founded by Lyman Brink in 1934. Mr.
Brink was a well known litigator, prosecutor,
and judge, whose professional career lasted until
his death in 1972. During that time Mr. Brink
served almost continuously as County Attorney
for Kittson County. He was deeply involved in
business pursuits sitting on a number of bank
boards and was a regent for the University of
Minnesota. Mr. Brink has been described as a "hard
nosed, tough as nails, personal injury litigator" who
was and who is still well known throughout the
entire Red River Valley region.
The
senior shareholder in the firm is presently Dennis
Sobolik,
born in Fordville, North Dakota, on September
16, 1931. Mr. Sobolik was first admitted to the
practice in 1959. Mr. Sobolik attended the University
of North Dakota obtaining his Juris Doctor degree
in 1959. Mr. Sobolik served as County Attorney
for Kittson County, Minnesota, for 20 years.
He also served 12 years on the Board of Governors
for the Minnesota State Bar Association. Currently,
Mr. Sobolik is serving on the Board of Directors
for a well-known biometrics corporation. Mr.
Sobolik has been deeply involved in all aspects
of agribusiness for his entire career. He has
litigated cases in almost every state within
the United States. The areas served by the firm
involve the largest farms in the state of Minnesota,
which are in this modern day each independent
businesses which require a sophistication and
experience possessed by Mr. Sobolik.
Robert Severson is
also a shareholder in the firm. Severson was
born in Duluth, Minnesota, on January 9, 1932,
and was first admitted to practice in 1959. Severson
received his education at North Dakota State
University, the University of Minnesota, and
thereafter attended law school at the University
of North Dakota, graduating in 1959. In the beginning
of his practice Mr. Severson practiced primarily
in the area of personal injury, wrongful death,
as well as workers' compensation. Mr. Severson's
concentration is currently in banking law and
estate planning. Mr. Severson has served in bar
association governance matters as the President
of the 14th Judicial Bar Association in 1975-76.
Roger Malm,
born in Hot Springs, South Dakota, on July 8,
1949, has been with the firm since 1980. Prior
to joining the firm he was in private practice
in Phoenix, Arizona. Malm attended St. Olaf College
in Northfield, Minnesota, and thereafter attended
the University of North Dakota Law School, graduating
in 1974. While in Arizona, Malm's area of concentration
involved hospital and health care law. Since
joining the firm Malm has worked both in litigation
matters and in office practice matters including
real estate and estate planning. In 1994 Mr.
Malm was elected Kittson County Attorney and
presently holds that office. Malm also served
for nine years as an Assistant Kittson County
Attorney.
Mr. Malm is a member of the Minnesota Defense
Lawyers Association and a member of the American
Academy of Hospital Attorneys. Most recently
(2007), was appointed by Chief Justice Anderson
of the Minnesota Supreme Court to the Minnesota
Commission on Judicial Selection. Mr. Malm's
biography has appeared in Who's Who in America and Who's
Who in American Law (Marquis Publications)
and other similar publications.
Robert Albrecht Mr.
Albrecht was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on
January 21, 1957. He attended the University of
North Dakota both for undergraduate and law school
degrees graduating from law school in 1982. Mr.
Albrecht concentrates in matters involving litigation,
especially matters involving personal injury and
wrongful death. In connection with his work, he
has had substantial involvement in declaratory
litigation involving interpretation of insurance
contracts.
Jeffrey Hane started
with the law firm as an intern prior to his graduation
from the University of North Dakota Law School.
Mr. Hane was awarded the Order of Coif and is a
member of the Order of Barristers. Mr. Hane obtained
his undergraduate training at Bemidji State University
and received a Masters Degree from Southern California
College. Mr. Hane's area of concentration is in
matters relating to personal injury including no-fault
matters. He has also works in matters relating
to wrongful death, Social Security, and workers'
compensation. Mr. Hane presently serves as an Assistant
Kittson County Attorney. Jeff's biography appears

Karen Foss Karen
M. Foss was born in Roseau, Minnesota and attended
school in Greenbush, Minnesota. She graduated Cum
Laude from the University of North Dakota in Grand
Forks, North Dakota, receiving her Bachelor’s
Degree in Public Administration. She obtained her
Juris Doctorate from the University of North Dakota
as well. Prior to joining the law firm of Brink,
Sobolik, Severson, Malm and Albrecht, P.A., Ms.
Foss served as a law clerk to the Honorable Judge
Donna K. Dixon in Roseau, Minnesota and retired
Judge Dennis J. Murphy in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
She also worked for the public defender’s
office for the State of Minnesota in Roseau, Minnesota.
Ms. Foss primarily focuses on family law, real
estate law, estate planning and general civil litigation.
Denise Sollund Denise A. Sollund was raised in Napoleon, North Dakkota. In 1998 she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Minnesota State University-Moorhead. She subsequently taught high school English for five years in the public school system. Ms. Sollund received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2006. She is licensed to practice law within the State of Minnesota. Ms. Sollund worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Donald J. Aandal prior to joining the firm of Brink, Sobolik, Severson, Malm and Albrecht, P.A. Ms. Sollund's practice is primarily focused on family law and general civil litigation.
