BRINK LAWYERS (Brink, Sobolik, Severson, Malm & Albrecht, P.A.) was founded by Lyman Brink in 1934. Mr. Brink was a well known litigator, prosecutor, and judge, whose professional career lasted until his death in 1972. During that time Mr. Brink served almost continuously as County Attorney for Kittson County. He was deeply involved in business pursuits sitting on a number of bank boards and was a regent for the University of Minnesota. Mr. Brink has been described as a “hard nosed, tough as nails, personal injury litigator” who was and who is still well known throughout the entire Red River Valley region.

In October of 2018, Dennis Sobolik retired as the senior shareholder.  Dennis was born in Fordville, North Dakota. Mr. Sobolik was first admitted to the practice in 1959 and actively practice law for nearly sixty years. Mr. Sobolik attended the University of North Dakota obtaining his Juris Doctor degree in 1959. Mr. Sobolik served as County Attorney for Kittson County, Minnesota, for 20 years. He also served 12 years on the Board of Governors for the Minnesota State Bar Association. Mr. Sobolik was a talented litigator and was deeply involved in banking and all aspects of agribusiness for his entire career. He litigated cases in many state and federal courts across the United States, and provided wise guidance to businesses all over the region.  He received numerous awards recognizing his trial skills and service to the profession.

Since joining the firm in 1980, senior shareholder Roger Malm has worked both in litigation matters and in office practice matters with a major focus on real estate and estate planning. In addition, in 1994, Mr. Malm was elected as the part-time Kittson County Attorney and was reelected for five additional terms. Roger also served for nine years as an Assistant Kittson County Attorney.   In 2007, Roger was appointed by Chief Justice Anderson of the Minnesota Supreme Court to the Minnesota Commission on Judicial Selection. Mr. Malm’s biography has appeared in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law (Marquis Publications) and other similar publications.  Roger was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota, on July 8, 1949. Prior to joining the firm he was in private practice in Phoenix, Arizona. Roger grew up in Fargo and attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and thereafter attended the University of North Dakota Law School, graduating in 1974. While in Arizona, Roger’s area of concentration involved hospital and health care law.

Robert Albrecht  is responsible for achieving numerous verdicts and settlements well in excess of one million dollars for our clients.  Bob has been litigating injury claims for the firm since 1982.  He concentrates in matters involving litigation, especially matters involving personal injury and wrongful death. In connection with his work, he has had substantial involvement in declaratory litigation involving interpretation of insurance contracts.  Bob was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1957 and grew up near Alsen, North Dakota. He attended the University of North Dakota both for undergraduate and law school degrees graduating from law school in 1982.

When he started with the firm in 1992, Jeffrey Hane was just a summer law clerk. He graduated from the UND School of Law in 1993 and came to work primarily on matters relating to personal injury, no-fault, wrongful death, Social Security, and workers’ compensation.  In 2005, Jeff also became the firm’s primary attorney for water-law issues.  In 2009, Mr. Hane went back to law school to obtain an advanced degree in Elder Law (LLM, Stetson University).  While he still handles drainage-related matters and general litigation,  his primary focus is on medicaid planning, estate planning, and businesses succession.  Jeff has also served as an Assistant Kittson County Attorney since 1996.  Mr. Hane was raised near Nisswa, Minnesota, obtained his undergraduate training at Bemidji State University,  and has a Masters Degree from Southern California College. In law school Jeff was awarded the Order of Coif and is a member of the Order of Barristers. Jeff’s biography appears in Who’s Who in American Law (Marquis Publications).  Jeff was appointed by Gov. Mark Dayton to the Minnesota Board on Aging and served for five years.

Denise Sollund’s practice is primarily focused on family law and general civil litigation.  She is also busy serving the area’s judges as a court-appointed parenting time expeditor, custody evaluator, and an early neutral evaluator.  Denise is a much sought-after family law litigator and expert.  Ms. Sollund received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2006.  Ms. Sollund worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Donald J. Aandal prior to joining the firm.  Denise was raised in Napoleon, North Dakota.  In 1998 she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Minnesota State University-Moorhead.  She first taught high school English and writing for five years in the public school system before pursuing her law career, and she currently serves on the Tri-County School Board.

George Hanson is a busy ag-law attorney who has been with the firm since graduating from the UND School of Law in 2012.  Prior to law school, George worked for a large integrated livestock producer and on the family farm, and he continues to farm on a small scale.  Agriculture has always been a part of his life and he understands the complex issues faced by farmers today.  George is ready to assist clients in farmland and other real estate sales and purchases, CRP program, wetland and drainage issues, farm leases, easement or zoning issues, estate planning, eminent domain, hunting leases, and business issues. George is a lifelong resident of Kittson County, was raised in Hallock, and graduated from Kittson Central High School.  He is active in a number of community organizations and served on the Lancaster Public School Board and Kittson County Economic Deveopment Authority.

Richard Lee handles all manner of litigation, focusing primarily on personal injury litigation, general civil litigation, workers compensation & social security, and family law matters.  He also provides guidance to numerous area cities.  On top of this, he is often court-appointed to represent persons in mental health or child protection matters.  Mr. Lee joined the firm in 2012 after receiving his Juris Doctor degree from Mississippi College School of Law.  Richard was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and raised in Savannah, Georgia. In 2009 he graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts as a double major in Political Science and Legal Studies. Prior to joining BRINK LAWYERS, Mr. Lee worked for the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Policy and Research Division, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and as a teaching and researching assistant focusing his research on the use of electronic evidence in the state courts and products liability.  Richard was elected as Mayor of Stephen in 2014.
